Location of the Slovak Republic

While Slovakia was under the thumb of communist U.S.S.R., it was known as Eastern Europe. However, the Slovak Republic is in the center of Europe. It is also at the same latitude as Fargo, North Dakota. People from Minnesota say that winters in Slovakia are not too bad. I don't know about person from the Central Coast of California.

What country?

On the first of January in 1993 Czechoslovakia separated into the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic. The separation was called "The Velvet Revolution" because it was a peaceful agreement between the two areas.

Location of Martin

The Centre for Christian Education is located in Martin, Slovakia. Martin is in the northwest part of the country. It is also a Slovak culture center. Many Slovak leaders in the history of Slovakia are buried in the cemetary in Martin. At the Centre for Christian Education there is a bronze plaque comemorating a debate between the Slovak leaders and the Hungarian leaders (during the time of Hungarian occupation of Slovakia) about the language of instructions for Slovak students.
